PURPOSE:
The Cheerleading Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the district's cheerleading program. The primary purpose of this position is to instruct student-athletes in cheerleading fundamentals while promoting school spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, physical fitness, and academic success in accordance with district policies and governing athletic and cheer organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required College coursework or degree in education, physical education, dance, or a related field preferred Previous cheerleading coaching and/or cheerleading experience preferred Knowledge of cheerleading techniques, motions, jumps, stunting, and safety practices Knowledge of rules and safety standards governing cheerleading activities Completion of required coaching certifications and training course established by the district and governing athletic or cheer organizations, including concussion management, first aid, CPR/AED, and cheer safety training GENERAL Ability to instruct, motivate, and supervise student-athletes Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills Ability to promote sportsmanship, school spirit, and positive student conduct Commitment to student safety and injury prevention Ability to work collaboratively with athletic staff, administrators, parents/guardians, and event personnel Must complete required background checks and district-mandated training
REPORTABILITY
The Cheerleading Coach reports to the Athletic Director and Building Principal or designee and operates within the district's athletic and activities department structure.
EVALUATION
Performance is evaluated by the Athletic Director or designee in accordance with district policies, procedures, and applicable agreements.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, organize, and conduct cheerleading practices, games, performances, and conditioning sessions Instruct student-athletes in cheerleading fundamentals, proper technique, and routines Promote school spirit, enthusiasm, and positive crowd engagement at athletic events and activities Emphasize safety, proper warmup, conditioning, and injury prevention Ensure appropriate supervision of student-athletes during practices, performances, games, travel, and team activities Develop and enforce team rules consistent with district and athletic department guidelines Monitor and support the academic eligibility of student-athletes Ensure compliance with district policies and governing athletic and cheer organization rules and safety regulations Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, administrators, and athletic staff Assist with equipment inventory, uniforms, and coordination of practice and performance facilities Supervise assistant coaches or advisors, if applicable Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or designee
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequently required to stand, walk, run, and move about athletic facilities for extended periods Ability to demonstrate athletic skills and movements specific to the sport Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment and supplies Ability to respond quickly to emergencies or changing game conditions Stamina to work practices and competitions that may occur during evenings, weekends, and in varying weather conditions
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, gyms, fields, tracks, and stadiums Exposure to varying weather conditions for outdoor sports Noise levels may range from moderate to loud during practices and competitions Interaction with students, parents/guardians, officials, staff, and community members is frequent
SENSORY ABILITIES
Ability to clearly see and track fast-moving objects, athletes, and play situations Ability to hear instructions, whistle signals, alarms, and verbal communication in noisy environments Ability to effectively communicate verbally and non-verbally with student-athletes and staff
TEMPERAMENT
Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and ability levels Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress or emotionally charged situations Ability to exercise patience, fairness, and sound judgment Ability to model positive behavior, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct at all times
COGNITIVE ABILITY
Ability to plan, organize, and implement practices and competitions Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, and safety guidelines Ability to make quick decisions in time-sensitive situations Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to student needs, safety concerns, and emergencies
SPECIFIC SKILLS
