Mentorship Program Population Served:
Teens ages 12-17 involved with Juvenile Probation / Department of Juvenile Corrections About the Role We are seeking a Juvenile Mentor to provide one-to-one, community-based mentoring services to teens involved in the juvenile justice system. This role is for someone who can show up consistently, build trust, model positive behavior, and help youth make safer, healthier choices. Many of the teens we serve have experienced challenges such as family conflict, school problems, negative peer influence, poor decision-making, behavioral defiance, substance use concerns, or firearm-related offenses. The Mentor is not a therapist or probation officer. The Mentor is a positive role model who helps youth build life skills, strengthen accountability, identify goals, and move away from criminogenic risk factors. This position requires reliability, professionalism, strong boundaries, timely documentation, and the ability to work independently in homes and community settings. Our Core Values Seek Growth We believe youth can learn, grow, and build a future beyond past mistakes. Mentors support youth in developing new skills, setting goals, and making positive changes. Lead with Heart We treat youth and families with respect, compassion, patience, and cultural awareness while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries. Drive Results We focus on consistency, documentation, communication, and measurable progress toward youth goals. What You'll Do Provide one-to-one mentoring services to assigned youth. Meet with youth at least once per week or as authorized. Work with youth in homes, schools, neighborhoods, and approved community settings. Support youth in addressing probation-identified risk factors and service plan goals. Model pro-social behavior, healthy communication, emotional regulation, accountability, and safe decision-making. Engage youth in structured activities that support school engagement, job readiness, life skills, positive recreation, community connection, and future planning. Help youth identify strengths, interests, goals, and positive alternatives to risky behavior. Communicate professionally with parents/guardians, probation officers, supervisors, and internal team members. Complete accurate and timely documentation for all services. Report safety concerns, incidents, disclosures, or mandated reporting concerns immediately according to agency policy. Participate in supervision, training, team meetings, and quality assurance activities. What Success Looks Like Successful Juvenile Mentors are consistent, dependable, and relationship-driven. They are able to connect with teens while maintaining strong professional boundaries. They can encourage youth, redirect behavior, reinforce accountability, and remain calm when youth are resistant, disengaged, or testing limits. Key Performance Expectations Complete at least 1 face-to-face session per assigned youth each week , unless cancellation or exception is documented. Maintain a 90% or higher completed-session rate for scheduled mentoring sessions. Submit 100% of progress notes within 24 hours of service delivery. Maintain 95% or higher documentation compliance based on internal audits. Document youth progress toward individualized goals at least monthly. Complete at least 2 structured pro-social or skill-building activities per youth each month , when appropriate. Respond to supervisor, care coordinator, and probation-related communication within 1 business day . Complete all required onboarding, supervision, annual training, and compliance requirements by assigned deadlines. Requirements Must be at least 21 years old . High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with youth, justice-involved individuals, behavioral health populations, mentoring, coaching, education, or human services preferred. Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation required. Must be able to pass all required background checks. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Must be comfortable working in youth homes, schools, neighborhoods, and community-based settings. Strong communication, documentation, organization, and boundary-setting skills required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with juvenile justice, probation, high-risk youth, behavioral health, trauma-informed care, coaching, mentoring, or community-based services. College coursework in behavioral health, criminal justice, social work, education, psychology, or a related field. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Why This Role Matters This role has the potential to change the direction of a young person's life. Many youth need a consistent adult who can help them slow down, think differently, build confidence, and see options beyond risky behavior, negative peers, court involvement, or firearm-related choices. As a Juvenile Mentor, you will help youth build accountability, strengthen life skills, and work toward a safer and more positive future. Apply today if you are dependable, compassionate, structured, and ready to make a direct impact in the lives of teens and families.
