Public Works Department Salary:
$58,000.00 to $75,000.00Annually DOQ Job Summary:
This position involves operating a variety of tools & equipment, performing manual labor and custodial duties to ensure cleanliness and safety citywide. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Foreman.Essential Duties:
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Maintains and repairs city's restrooms, parks, and facilities. Maintenance of the city's roadways and parking lots, including patching, sweeping, street light repair, signage and paint striping. Mows and trims city rights-of-way and parks. Trims all city trees and hedges and applies herbicide as needed. Collects debris and litter left in city parks, stormwater systems, roadways, and right-of-way etc. Performs preventive maintenance and repair of all city vehicles and equipment.Education/Training:
Prefer High School Diploma or GED.Knowledge, Skills, And Ability:
Experience in plumbing and irrigation systems repairs. Experience with basic electrical repairs. Knowledge of the materials, equipment, procedures and methods used in public works construction and maintenance activities. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment and of the use of chemicals. Experience in carpentry and mechanical repairs. Some knowledge of basic masonry techniques. Ability to understand, interpret, and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to understand and interpret simple diagrams and drawings of assigned projects. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ability to operate equipment such as backhoe, tractors, mowing equipment, chain saws, pole saws, and various hand tools as required. Ability to recognize, address and/or report safety concerns or maintenance needs of city equipment, facilities and/or property. Ability to work in extreme weather and heat for prolong periods of time. Ability to follow direction and manage time. Ability to work from heights of up to 40ft from a liftSupervisory and Managerial Responsibility:
None.Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred background in a general trade such as welding, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, and/or mechanical equipment repair and maintenance. Possession of valid State of FL driver's license (Class C).Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Abilities:
Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort in moderate to intense work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, shoveling, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 100 pounds). The majority of a normal work day involves standing or walking.Sensory Requirements:
