Job Description

Kitchen Help/Custodian/Sub Driver
JOB OBJECTIVE
Support daily kitchen operations and compliance through food preparation, sanitation, temperature control and timely meal delivery in accordance with the Older Americans Act (OAA).
STATUS:
Non-Exempt

Kitchen Manager
HOURS OF WORK
Monday - Thursday, irregular hours
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Food Preparation Support
  • Assist with food preparation by following approved menus, standardized recipes, and portion guidelines.
  • Perform prep work as directed by the Kitchen Manager or Assistant Cook. Dishwashing & Kitchen Sanitation
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and food service equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food preparation areas in accordance with sanitation standards established by Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA). Custodial & Facility Support
  • Sweep and spot-mop kitchen floors daily.
  • Empty trash and recycling daily and as needed throughout the shift.
  • Clean kitchen, dining, storage, and restroom areas and replenish supplies as needed. Meal Delivery (In-Home & Congregate Site)
  • Deliver meals according to assigned routes and schedules.
  • Provide backup delivery coverage for other routes or drivers as assigned.
  • Ensure proper handling, transport, and delivery of meals to maintain food safety and required temperature controls.
  • Comply with all county, departmental, and nutrition program policies and procedures.
  • Operate program vehicles safely, and communicate delays or concerns promptly.
Participant Wellness Observation:
  • Conduct brief wellness observations and report concerns promptly and accurately in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain participant dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times. Equipment & Program Support
  • Monitor and report kitchen equipment, vehicle and custodial supply needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information in accordance with HIPAA and program policies.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collect and submit program income in accordance with established policies and procedures, when applicable.
  • Conduct required vehicle inspections and report safety concerns or mechanical issues promptly.
  • Clean and sanitize vehicles, and delivery equipment daily in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFIACTIONS
  • Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of participant information.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (5-8 hours) and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and adapt to changing routes, schedules, or coverage needs.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with older adults and maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
