Job Description

Job Title:
Lab Technician Job Description The lab technician will be responsible for all stages of testing on a daily basis once trained, and will be flexible to go where needed. This position involves completing a variety of tests, including wet chemistry or analytical tests on refinery, inbound, outbound, and in-process samples. Additionally, the technician will be trained and required to perform wastewater testing. Responsibilities Conduct wet chemistry or analytical tests on refinery, inbound, outbound, and in-process samples. Perform wastewater testing after receiving proper training. Maintain accurate records of all testing procedures and results. Ensure adherence to safety protocols at all times. Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow. Rotate working weekends every fourth week on first shift (6am-2pm) and adapt to shift rotations. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in sciences, with a strong preference for chemistry or chemical engineering. At least 1 year of prior laboratory experience, either in industry or through undergraduate research. Experience in bench testing and wet chemistry. Familiarity with gas chromatography (GC) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) is highly advantageous. Strong communication skills. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Strong attention to detail and quality control. Proficiency in data entry and analytical chemistry techniques. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with titration and chemical analysis. Knowledge of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) and ICP mass spectrometry (ICP MS). Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and shift rotations. Computer skills for data management and reporting. Work Environment The role is based in a quality laboratory within a chemical/oil and gas refinery plant. The environment emphasizes safety and ongoing training, ensuring all team members feel comfortable with their responsibilities. The role offers career growth opportunities, with potential advancement to Chemist I within a year. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Chicago, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.96 - $24.96/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
