Job Title:
Lab Technician - Flavor CompoundingJob Description This role focuses on compounding flavor samples to support Flavor Creation and Applications teams, ensuring accurate preparation of samples for trial runs, customer requests, and internal projects. The lab technician maintains the flavor creation laboratory, manages raw material inventory, and follows established standards and procedures to deliver high-quality compounded flavors. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity that offers a pathway to long-term employment for individuals who enjoy hands-on lab work and precise measurement. Responsibilities Compound flavor samples for Flavor Creation and Applications teams for revision trial runs and internal projects. Prepare and package compounded flavor samples for customers according to established company standards and specifications. Accurately weigh ingredients using laboratory scales and ensure precise measurements for all formulations. Read, interpret, and follow recipe instructions and formulation sheets with a high level of accuracy. Organize, label, and maintain the raw material library to ensure easy access, traceability, and proper storage of ingredients. Clean and maintain the work area and laboratory equipment to uphold a safe, organized, and hygienic lab environment. Perform routine scale calibration and verify that all measurement devices are functioning accurately. Assist in inventory control by monitoring stock levels of raw materials and supplies and reporting any discrepancies. Manage miscellaneous inventories for the lab area, ensuring materials and consumables are adequately stocked. Issue purchase orders (POs) for laboratory supply inventory in alignment with internal procedures. Support flavorists by assisting with simple application tasks and basic lab preparations as needed. Follow all laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and documentation requirements related to compounding activities. Essential Skills Demonstrated laboratory skills, including handling lab equipment and working in a controlled lab environment. Ability to accurately weigh ingredients using a scale and maintain precise measurements. Strong math skills, including the ability to perform conversions and calculate percentages. Experience using laboratory scales to weigh ingredients for formulations or compounding tasks. Basic understanding of chemistry concepts relevant to compounding and flavor preparation. Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed recipe instructions and standard operating procedures. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of lab work and documentation. Ability to organize and maintain a raw material library and lab inventory. Effective time management skills to handle multiple sample requests and lab tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's degree in a scientific or related field is preferred. Prior experience in compounding, flavor preparation, or similar lab-based roles is beneficial. Familiarity with inventory control processes and issuing purchase orders is an advantage. Comfort working with flavor ingredients and basic laboratory chemicals. Interest in supporting flavorists and learning more about flavor creation and applications. Willingness to grow within a contract-to-hire position and develop long-term skills in laboratory operations. Work Environment The position is based in a laboratory environment operating Monday through Friday, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work takes place primarily in a lab setting where the lab technician uses scales, measuring devices, and other standard laboratory equipment to compound and prepare flavor samples. The environment requires consistent attention to cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety procedures. Employees can expect a structured schedule, hands-on lab work, and collaboration with flavor creation and applications teams in a professional, process-driven setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Streamwood, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
