Job Description

At Trident Maritime Systems - Heavy Equipment Group, we don't just build systems-we build careers. We are seeking a Labor Estimator to work on-site at our Kingsford, MI location. The Labor Estimator will be responsible for labor estimating and proposal development in support of manufacturing products for U.S. Navy vessels and commercial vessels that meet American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards. This role focuses on developing accurate labor cost estimates for shipboard equipment, components, and systems. This position will work closely with engineering, project management, program management, finance and internal stakeholders to drive accurate cost and labor estimates to safeguard and secure the future of the program
MAJOR DUTIES
Prepare and present labor cost estimates in support of customer requests for quotes and bid proposals for marine manufacturing products destined for U.S. Navy and ABS-compliant vessels.

Review and interpret U.S. Navy blueprints, technical drawings, and 3D models to understand the full scope of manufacturing requirements and develop accurate man-hour estimates.

Perform detailed material take-offs from Navy drawings, specifications, and models to quantify material requirements and associated labor for fabrication, assembly, and installation.

Develop comprehensive man-hour estimates by trade (e.g., welding, machining, assembly, electrical, painting) based on manufacturing processes, complexity, and production methods.

Analyze testing requirements specified in Navy and ABS standards, including but not limited to: hydrostatic testing, non-destructive testing (NDT), factory acceptance testing (FAT), and sea trials support-accounting for associated labor hours and costs.

Consult with Engineering and Manufacturing to validate labor hour assumptions, confirm process capabilities, and determine appropriate manufacturing methods for Navy and ABS-compliant production.

Analyze historical labor data from prior Navy and ABS vessel manufacturing projects to benchmark estimates and improve accuracy.

Consult with accounting department to ensure current labor rates, burden rates, and overhead factors are applied correctly to man-hour estimates.

Prepare formal quotations and proposals that clearly document labor hours by trade, material costs, testing costs, and total estimated pricing in compliance with Navy and ABS documentation standards.

Initiate, attend, and participate in cost and price reviews; present labor estimates, assumptions, and risk assessments to management for pricing strategy development.

Maintain organized estimating files, including drawings, specifications, labor breakdowns, and supporting documentation for all quotes and proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in related field, bachelor's degree Preferred4 + years of direct experience will be considered in lieu of education2+ Years of experience in Manufacturing, Cost Estimating, or related field.

Ability to read blueprints and produce material take-offs.
