Laboratory Accessioner

  • $23 an hour Accessioner An Accessioner plays a crucial role in the healthcare and laboratory sectors.
They are responsible for the accurate and efficient handling, labeling, and processing of biological specimens, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples. This position serves as a vital entry point in the laboratory workflow, ensuring the integrity of diagnostic processes by properly cataloging and routing samples for testing.
Responsibilities:
Perform quality control on slides. Enter data for grossing procedures. Package slides for distribution to TC pathologists. File paperwork within our Laboratory Information System (LIS). Manage time effectively to meet logistical deadlines. Maintain attention to detail for accurate processing of patient specimens and data entry. Adhere to all written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within the department. Verify insurance for patients with incoming samples. Handle all necessary documentation for completed tasks. Ensure correct and complete patient identification on requisitions and specimen labels. Prepare specimens for internal departments and arrange for necessary send outs. Enter patient information as needed. Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas. Resolve and document any issues with problem specimens. Comply with all relevant environmental health and safety policies and procedures. Provide weekly reports detailing completed work, issues encountered, and resolutions.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous laboratory or related experience preferred. Useful skills include familiarity with medical terminology, strong data entry and organizational abilities, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills. Able to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to follow detailed instructions. Adherence to safety regulations at all times.
