Job Description
Needy Paws Animal Shelter is a private, non-profit, managed-intake, no-kill animal shelter located in Clarksville, AR. Our mission is to help pets and pet owners in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay and neuter, and community outreach.
Purpose of Position:
The Kennel Supervisor will be expected to uphold the vision, mission, goals, and core values of Needy Paws Animal Shelter. This position will be responsible for the supervision of kennel staff, control of shelter dogs/cats and ensuring the dogs/cats kept in their kennels and facility are cared for properly. Responsibility also includes maintenance and cleaning of the kennels as well as other areas of the facility as needed. The Kennel Supervisor position has the responsibility or making sure all duties are completed each day throughout the facility. The Kennel Supervisor shall be available to the officers, committees, and members of the board of directors for professional consultation in connection with the affairs and activities of Needy Paws Animal Shelter. Required skills include, but are not limited to the following: A current working knowledge of companion animal care, including vaccinating, drawing blood, running routine health tests, and animal sheltering. The Kennel Supervisor will to continue to stay up to date on national recognized best practices regarding animal welfare, as well as local, state, and national laws governing animal care. This position requires strong motivational skills, management skills, and interpersonal skills with staff, volunteers, and the public.Duties and Responsibilities:
SUPERVISING RESPONSIBILITIES
Animal care Ensure the humane treatment of animals, including feeding, watering, exercising, and administering medication. Exercising and monitoring the behavior of dogs/cats in our care. Cleaning and maintaining all animal kennels and other areas of the facility as needed. Facility management Oversee the cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep of the shelter, including the kennel building, equipment, vehicles, and workstations. Transport animals to and from the vet. Transport to/from local locations for food donation pick up. Staff management Supervise, train, and evaluate staff and volunteers, and ensure they follow policies and procedures. Animal health Perform daily inspections of animals and the kennel, and arrange veterinary visits when needed. Walk through kennel areas checking each animal individually for abnormal activity (vomiting, blood, and diarrhea). Recognizes emergency situations. Administers medication including vaccines to animals as requested. Record keeping Maintain animal records, medication logs, and drug logs. Inventory management Maintain inventory of shelter supplies and equipment. Communication Develop communication strategies to engage employees and foster positive change Responsible for carrying out other such duties and tasks as may be assigned by the Board of Directors from time to time.Job Type:
