Animal Control Officer

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of animal control functions including patrol, field enforcement and kennel maintenance functions; respond to community complaints and pick up, transport, care for and impound animals; provide information and assistance to the public in areas related to animal control.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years experience handling and caring for animals.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid California Class C driver's license. Incumbents must successfully complete a

P.C. 832

course in Arrest, Search and Seizure, and Firearms Training within six months of employment. A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
