JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Code Enforcement Manager, performs technical and administrative work in the enforcement of all City Codes. The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for interpreting existing codes, legal descriptions and code enforcement procedures. Employee is also responsible for making independent enforcement decisions in accordance with the laws.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Conducts field inspections and issues courtesy written and/or verbal legal notices of code and regulation violations. Interprets and enforces the provisions of applicable federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations. Responds to complaints and questions concerning code violations and code enforcement issues; provides information and technical assistance to citizens; researches problems and initiates problem resolution; discusses problem areas with property owners, property managers, and contractors; mediates disputes between neighbors. Performs inspections of buildings and property for conformance with applicable codes; conducts re-inspections as needed; verifies permits and local business tax receipts; monitors vacant houses for security; photographs violations for evidence. Researches property records to determine ownership of property. Ensures case data is in order, photographic records of violations, inspection activities are maintained, violation notices are properly distributed and provides input on the status of corrective actions. Prepares or completes various forms and other documents, reports, correspondence, logs, citations, violation notices, warning notices, Code Board Power Points and other community presentations. Prepares cases by gathering any necessary evidence of code violations, researching legal descriptions, property ownership and ordinances. Testifies and presents findings of code violations to the Code Enforcement Board or Special Magistrate. Interacts with City Attorney in preparation of code enforcement cases. Interacts with other city, county, and state agencies to enforce violations. Interacts with general public in the enforcement of City Codes. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with city officials and employees, the general public, and representatives of other agencies toward the accomplishment of assigned projects. Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency. Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of standard office procedures, record keeping and preparation of forms and correspondence. Skill in the use of a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Office and various other office equipment. Ability to gains trust and cooperation of others to effectively communicate concepts and ideas. Ability to work effectively with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and maintain composure in difficult and/or stressful situations. Ability to work and communicate with the general public; enforce codes with firmness and tact and exercise mature judgment.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school or GED certificate with one (1) years' experience in code enforcement, building, housing or related regulatory inspections, inspection of properties for compliance with recognized standards; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Special Qualifications:
For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire. Must obtain Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Certification in Fundamentals in Code Enforcement within one(1) year of hire date.ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is generally medium and may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:Balancing:

Ability to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, operating motor vehicles; including color, depth perception, and field vision.Walking:
