Code Enforcement Officer Salary Range:
$19.00- 27.08 per hour
DOQ JOB SUMMARY
The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for investigating violations of the County Code of Ordinances and involving public contact and a working knowledge of the rules and requirements of code enforcement procedures. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Community Development Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Greets the general public and answers various questions pertaining to Code Enforcement, etc.
- Patrols the County in vehicles or on foot and looks for violations to the Code of Ordinances.
- Responds to a wide variety of calls and complaints involving violation of the Code of Ordinances.
- Resolves violations through voluntary compliance or when not possible, sets in motion the process for appearance before the Special Magristrate for further action or other legal enforcement procedures.
- Collects monies for code fines and fees and enters into computer programs.
- Issues Notices to appear.
- Conducts research to determine necessary facts.
- Keeps records and makes reports of activities and cases filed or forwarded for filing.
- Answers the phone and provides information to the general public.
- Posts information to various records and prepares reports to surrounding cities in the County.
- Posts inspection information by computer on permits cards.
- Takes inspection requests via phone and in person.
- Provides testimony in code violation matters.
- Presents cases to the Code Enforcement Board/Special Master/ County Court.
- Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from a computer.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; and two (2) years of enforcement or related experience, including some experience in direct public contact and record keeping; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of a F.
A.C.E. Certification as a Code Enforcement Inspector I, II, III, or ability to obtain with 12 months after hiring.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Chapters 162 and 489, Florida Statutes
- Ability to gain a working knowledge of County's Unified Land Development Code and other regulations, as it pertains to enforcement activities
- Knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to gain knowledge of the geography of the County, proximate incorporated areas and County roadway network.
- Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations or policy and apply these to work problems.
- Ability to enforce ordinances with firmness, tact, and impartiality and to deal with the general public with patience and courtesy.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer terminal.
- Ability to work under stress with time constraints.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to enter data at a prescribed rate of speed.
- Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, and walking. Mental acuity is required for making rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes. Visual ability is required to operate heavy equipment and perform activities specific to the job, such as viewing a computer terminal, observation of facilities or structures, and/or inspection involving small parts or operations of machines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both inside in an office environment and outside environmental conditions in which the employee is subject to workplace hazards including exposure to atmospheric conditions with extreme cold and heat for short periods of time; over slippery and uneven surfaces, and at heights of up to 25 feet.
