Job Description

Job Summary This position is responsible for enforcing state laws and ordinances, ensuring documentation is accurate, and protecting citizens from dangerous or stray animals. This position also assists public safety departments throughout the county. Job Duties Dispatches pertinent information to Field Officer from call log and process telephone call from multiple lines on complaints from citizens and 911 Dispatch. Data entry and prepare simple reports. Operates copier, fax machine, and cash register. Enforces federal laws, state laws, and Catoosa County ordinances. Investigates complaints of stray animals, nuisance animals, cruelty, and neglect of animals. Investigates bite cases and completes reports and reports findings to proper authorities. Captures stray animals safely and humanely. Transports animals to shelter or veterinary office if animals are sick or insured. Performs euthanasia on sick injured or non-adoptive animals using State approved methods. Uses variety of tools and equipment for safely and humanely capturing and transporting animals. Issues warnings and citations and appears in courts of different jurisdictions on behalf of Catoosa County. Performs functions and tasks on after hour emergency calls to include weekends. Operates maintains assigned vehicle and other equipment. Maintains excellent public relations while being helpful and courteous and enforcing laws and ordinances. Helps to maintain cleanliness and healthiness of shelter, cat rooms, and kennels. Answers, logs, and process phone calls as needed. Performs computer tasks with accuracy and proficiency. Assists with county registrations and animal adoptions as needed. Holds monthly safety meetings and monitors workplace for safety concerns. Assists in setting up a safe place for animals in the county if there is a declared disaster. Reports problems or issues to the department director on a daily basis and after-hours nights and weekends. Performs other related duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the Animal Control Shelter. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. More than two years of related experience preferred. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must successfully obtain euthanasia certification within 90 days of hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of or ability to learn Federal, State, standard operating procedures, and county ordinances. Knowledge of ability to learn Georgia Rabies manual and guidelines. Knowledge of or ability to learn reference materials and codes. Able to proficiently use a computer, Windows and Microsoft applications and data entry applications. Able to use miscellaneous office equipment. Ability to lift 40-50 pounds unassisted and over 51-100 pounds assisted. Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to tolerate unpleasant odors and noises. Ability to differentiate color and shades of color. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Must possess good organization skills with excellent attention to detail. Good math, verbal, and written skills. Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment for the safe handling of animals. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
