Job Description

Floyd County is looking for an Animal Control Officer!
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this classification is to enforce animal control laws and regulations, protect public safety, and ensure the humane care, handling, capture, transport, and control of animals within the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following functions are typically associated with this position. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical extension of this role. Other duties may be required and assigned. Enforces animal control laws, ordinances, and regulations; issues warnings and citations and takes corrective action for violations. Responds to service calls involving stray, injured, aggressive, or nuisance animals; investigates complaints and performs follow-up. Captures, restrains, and safely transports domestic and wild animals; sets and monitors traps and handles animal removal from public areas. Assesses animals for injury, illness, or rabies exposure; quarantines animals when required and coordinates appropriate disposition. Provides humane care for impounded animals, including feeding, cleaning, monitoring, and maintaining kennel facilities. Performs euthanasia procedures in accordance with established protocols and maintains required records and logs. Assists with public education on animal safety, responsible pet ownership, and applicable laws and adoption procedures. Maintains shelter and facility operations, including cleaning, sanitation, security, and basic maintenance of equipment and grounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification as a Basic Correctional Officer and National Animal Control Association (NACA) Certification within one (1) year of hire.
