Job Description
The Graffiti Officer enforces code ordinances of the City of Savannah dependent upon assigned ordinances. Performs routine code compliance activities:
Investigate complaints and enforce regulatory codes and ordinances as mandated. Conduct on-site inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with city or state ordinances. Patrols designated areas of the city to identify code violations. Issues correction notices, cease and desist orders, or citations for violations. Conducts research to identify property owners. Attends neighborhood association meetings to make presentations related to code enforcement activities. Maintains complete and accurate records. Leads special projects, inspections, and investigations such as surveillance and monitoring of potential violations. Promotes community partnerships to identify and solve health problems. Assists in planning and preparedness activities as required. Respond to public health emergencies as needed.Performs administrative duties:
Maintain accurate documentation on appropriate forms and tracking of violations, inspections, and code enforcement activities. Responds to customer inquiries. Assists with research on special properties as directed. Paint over graffiti using appropriate paints; match and mix paints; determine the appropriate paint/color, materials, equipment, and supplies needed to complete the job. Remove graffiti from City, Private, Public and Commercial properties using a variety of specialized equipment and chemicals /solvents. Performs other related duties as assigned. High School diploma or GED, and one (1) year of code enforcement or field investigative experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. You must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Additional Requirements Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of related City of Savannah codes and ordinances. Knowledge of the principles and practices property maintenance code enforcement. Skill in decision making. Skill in compiling information and preparing reports. Skill in operating such office equipment as a computer, calculator, copier, and facsimile machine. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication.Minimum Standards:
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Department Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.GUIDELINES
Guidelines include city procurement procedures, budget procedures, and reporting requirements. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.COMPLEXITY
