This position will allow you to provide customer service to our residents and businesses through the code enforcement process. Under the general supervision of the Building and Code Division Manager, the Code Enforcement Officer will interpret, administer, and perform code enforcement actions to ensure compliance with the Village of Westmont's Code of Ordinances. Being a Code Enforcement Officer is more than just enforcing the municipal and adopted I-Series Codes throughout the Village. This position often engages with the public, residents and business owners. And, while no two interactions are the same, here is an idea of some of the things this position gets to do: Educate the public on property minimum requirements to maintain a safe, clean and prosperous community Negotiate situations to find a best solution that is amenable to all parties while upholding standard operating procedures and consistent operations Maintain databases for proper documentation, follow-up and legal follow-through when necessary Drive the neighborhoods, commercial areas and multi-family properties looking for opportunities for maintenance improvement Experience and attributes that will contribute to success in this role: Familiarity with how communities regulate activities within Village boundaries and the ability to research and interpret written codes and policies A keen eye and the ability to recognize inconsistencies related to maintenance, construction and proper execution of contractor activities The ability to connect with persons whether verbal or with written correspondence and the ability to problem-solve to achieve compliance Disciplined approach to learning new facts, obtaining field data and documenting existing conditions For more information and to see the full job description, please visit the Village website: https://westmont.illinois.gov/206/Employment-Opportunities Your hard work pays off!
