ANIMAL CONTROL PT CLERK
Incumbent serves as Clerk Typist, Dispatcher, and Secretary for the Animal Control Shelter. DUTIES Performs assigned clerical duties for the Animal Control Shelter. Maintains department files including all work orders and related documentation. Types correspondence. Answers and records telephone calls. Routes all incoming calls to appropriate personnel. Receives complaints directly from public and disperses them to the appropriate personnel/department for the proper course of action. Monitors two-way radio and responds to calls from staff, as needed. Dispatches units and officers for quarantines and animal pickups, receives and records bite reports, compiles monthly reports, and receives animals into kennel. Explain the procedures for adoption of animals to visitors. Receipts monies for sale and return of animals to owners, quarantine fees, and city licenses. Explains permit procedures concerning large, wild and exotic animals to general public and other interested parties. Traces identification on animals. Keeps records on euthanized animals and animals under quarantine. Enters data related to reported complaints concerning problems related to service operations and maintains records, as needed. Completes daily inventory. Assist Director with achieving departmental risk management duties. Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & DIFFICULTY OF WORK
Must have high school diploma or equivalent with secretarial or business courses and/or experience. Ability to type 40-50 words per minute accurately and operate standard office equipment including: typewriter, computer, copier, two-way radio, facsimile machine, and multi-line telephone. Must possess a working knowledge of all general office skills including typing and filing. Should have particular knowledge of computers with an understanding of word processing, data bases, spreadsheets and accounting software programs. Ability to effectively communicate with other office staff, supervisors, other city employees and the general public. Must have ability to read maps and relay information to other employees and general public. Knowledge of animal breeds helpful. Must be able to work under stressful situations. Knowledge of and ability to use English grammar, spelling, punctuations and arithmetic. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and every Sunday.
RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent receives work assignments from Animal Control Superintendent; work is reviewed during and upon completion. Must monitor telephone and radio and cannot leave them unattended. Must follow various standardized procedures as outlines by supervisor's instruction. Errors in judgment are readily detected and may result in embarrassment to the department and minor inconvenience to the public. Performs limited duties in the absence of the Superintendent.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Incumbent regularly communicates with co-workers, supervisors, city and county officials, and the general public to give and receive actual information. Reports directly to Superintendent of Animal Control.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Performs work in modern office environment with no unusual physical demands. Will be required to work with animals when animals are brought in or adopted at the Shelter.
