Job Description

The city of Melrose seeks a reliable and community‑focused Regional Animal Control Officer to support animal safety and public welfare across Melrose, Wakefield, and Stoneham. This role involves responding to calls, investigating complaints, and enforcing state and local animal control laws. This position requires regular after-hours availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Officers must be prepared to respond immediately to emergencies, with compensation provided for off‑hours phone and in‑person responses. Ideal candidates have experience working with animals, strong judgment, and the ability to remain calm in fast-moving situations. A valid driver's license and ability to obtain required certifications, including rabies vaccination, are required. Compensation is $28.79-$29.95/hr with full benefits (40 hrs/week).
