Job Description
The Police Cadet plays a vital support role by handling low-priority service calls, including vehicle lockouts, animal complaints, and ordinance violations. The position also involves receiving specialized training in police operations such as first aid, defensive tactics, firearms, legal statutes, patrol operations, mental health response, and investigative techniques, preparing candidates for potential future roles as licensed police officers. This role functions as an apprenticeship, enabling individuals to acquire foundational knowledge and skills essential for a policing career. This position is eligible for annual tuition reimbursement of up to $7,500, contingent upon meeting all applicable program and position requirements. The first review of applications will take place on April 29 , 2026. The position may remain open until filled. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, psychological evaluation, drug screening, medical evaluation, and physical examination
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responds to calls regarding parking complaints and actively searches for parking violations, enforcing city ordinances or state statutes as required. Handles animal complaints, including issues like barking dogs, dogs at large, and dog bites; impounds animals and takes suitable enforcement actions when necessary. Assists officers with traffic control at accident scenes and other service calls. Writes official police reports to document actions taken. Delivers evidence to various crime labs in coordination with the property clerk and/or supervisory staff. Coordinates and schedules civil and criminal fingerprint appointments and takes fingerprints of individuals. Takes inventory of essential items at the police department, such as medical supplies, to ensure adequate stock. Receives training in police operations.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of relevant regulations and procedures necessary for the role. Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with the public. Proficiency in documenting actions and handling sensitive information. Skill in coordinating schedules and managing inventories. Strong adaptability and willingness to learn new processes and systems.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED. Valid Driver's License 18 years of age or olderWORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to computer screens; working closely with others; frequent interruptions. Possible exposure to inclement weather conditions, exposure to working with moving objects/vehicles. The work is partially indoors and outdoors with the potential need for lifting supplies up to 40 pounds.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
