Job Description
Do you love animals and want a job that truly makes a difference? The Part-Time Animal Shelter Technician is a rewarding, hands-on role where compassion meets action. Each day, you'll preform intermediate semiskilled work in animal care and cleaning of premises in animal control operations. Duties consist of helping care for shelter animals, keep their environment clean and comfortable, and support adoption and medical efforts that give animals a second chance. Working alongside a dedicated team and under the regular supervision of the Animal Control Director. Feed, water and provides basic care for animals in the shelter. Follow a sanitation schedule each day and use designated chemicals and techniques to effectively clean and sanitize the animals' kennels and enclosures in the shelter. Clean all areas of the shelter including feed room, washroom, kitchen, restrooms, break room, lobby, and hallways and offices. Maintains organization of equipment and supplies in the feed room, washroom, and kennels. Provides educational information to the general public regarding animals adopted from the county shelter. Observe the condition of animals in the shelter and reports suspected illness or injuries of animals to the supervisor. Assists the Vet Tech when needed with handling and restraint of animals for vaccinations. Performs venipunctures on all animals that require blood tests. Collect, prepare and read microscope slides for various samples collected from shelter animals. Performs Rabies vaccinations, DA2PPV, FVRCP, IN, and Bordetella vaccinations on animals. Work with rescues to keep euthanasia rates low; and assists as needed with the proper disposal of animals in compliance with established procedures, laws, and regulations. Transport animals to s/n clinics, rescues, adoption events. Verifies chemicals and supplies stay stocked. Performs other related duties as assigned Knowledge of small animal care and behavior. Knowledge of how diseases and contaminants spread and how to contain an outbreak of illness. Knowledge of cleaning agents and chemicals. Skill in handling animals; skill in cleaning and general custodial duties. Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public. Ability to read, comprehend and follow written instructions Physical Demands This work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work frequently requires climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Work Environment Work requires exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Minimum Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or its equivalent, with no required experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Additional Requirements:
Valid North Carolina Driver's License Successful completion of SBI background check with required fingerprinting by Sheriff Office.
