Job Description
Job Summary This position under the direction of the Cibola County Sheriff performs routine protective service work in the enforcement of local ordinances and state laws regulating the keeping of animals within the County. Work Environment Work is continually performed outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Occasional exposure to hazardous work conditions include contact with potentially wild, dangerous, and diseased animals; work performed in streets and highways to remove dead animals. At times you may be required to work past regularly scheduled hours and/or weekends. Job Responsibilities Receives and investigates citizen complaints relating to dogs, cats, and other animals. Locates, captures, and transports abandoned and stray dogs, cats, and other animals. Issue summonses to animal owners in violation of animal control ordinances. Prepares reports and maintains appropriate records. Performs routine patrol. Set up traps and prepares reports and maintains log on trap locations. Testifies in court involving enforcement of animal control ordinances. Maintains equipment and vehicles. Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED that is equivalent of the standards of the NM Public Education Department and is recognized by said department as an accredited diploma or GED. Valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must be 18 years of age or older. Ability to work outdoors exposed to all-natural weather conditions. May not have any DWI or DUI within the last five years. Pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and background investigation. Must reside within reasonable commuting distance of the worksite.
