This is an active, community-facing role for someone who can combine humane animal handling, public service, and sound decision-making in real time. Animal Control Officers respond to animal-related calls across Philadelphia and play an important role in protecting both animals and public safety. Job Responsibilities ❖ Respond to animal-related calls throughout Philadelphia ❖ Safely capture, handle, and transport animals ❖ Address concerns involving stray, injured, sick, neglected, or at-risk animals ❖ Interact professionally with residents, dispatch, law enforcement, rescue partners, and team members ❖ Assess situations quickly and use sound judgment in the field ❖ Complete accurate reports and documentation ❖ Support humane, safe, and least-intrusive animal handling practices ❖ Represent ACCT Philly professionally in the community Qualifications ❖ Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record ❖ Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions ❖ Ability to safely lift and handle animals and equipment ❖ Ability to remain calm in stressful or unpredictable situations ❖ Strong communication and documentation skills ❖ Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response shifts as needed ❖ Experience in animal handling, animal welfare, veterinary support, or a related field preferred Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is compassionate, practical, and confident in the field. Pay and Benefits Animal Control Officers at ACCT Philly can make an average of $42,000 per year, after an initial training period. There are also opportunities for overtime and shift differentials , which can increase overall earnings. Training Rate - $18.00 After Training Rate - $19.75 to $21.25 based on experience ACCT Philly also offers: ❖ 9 paid holidays each year , including Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Juneteenth , and other recognized holidays ❖ Paid training , including certificates of completion ❖ Full uniforms provided ❖ One free adoption per year ❖ Free vaccinations for your current pets Schedule ACCT Philly is open for emergency response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Animal Control Officers work a rotating schedule which is posted in advance.
