Job Description
County of Hancock Regional Animal Control Officer The Hancock County Commissioners are accepting applications for an opening for a part-time Regional Animal Control Officer. The Regional Animal Control Officer will be responsible for enforcing the Animal Control Laws of the State of Maine and Town Ordinances, responding to complaints about loose or stray animals, delivering captured animals to the animal shelter, and maintaining all necessary reports and records on incidents involving stray or wild animals. The successful candidate must be a strong self-starter, have the ability to work independently, possess the physical strength and agility sufficient for performing job duties, possess a valid State of Maine motor vehicle operator's license, and be able to obtain state certification for animal control within six months of hire.
Minimum requirements include:
Knowledge of the principles, practices and equipment used in animal handling.
Knowledge of the geography of Hancock County.
Knowledge of the applicable State laws and Town ordinances.
Ability to acquire working knowledge of applicable court procedures.
Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
Ability to deal courteously, but firmly, with the general public.
Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
Skill in the handling of domestic animals.
