SUMMARY Adoption Counselors are responsible for providing excellent customer service, assisting the public, and managing front desk operations. Primary duties include greeting visitors, providing the public with information about our assistance programs, guiding individuals through the adoption process, and maintaining accurate records. This role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to multitask efficiently.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Animal Care Demonstrate safe and appropriate animal handling. Monitor cleanliness of animal housing, and work areas. Identify animals requiring medical attention, and report these needs appropriately. Administer medical care according to veterinary orders. Prepare and provide multiple forms of enrichment to animals in care. Attention to detail and the ability to assess individual animals that may require special attention in order to improve their ability to be adopted. Maintain current, accurate information for animals on PetPoint. Transport animals off site when needed. Front Desk and Customer Service Assist and educate the public on proper animal handling. Cultivate positive client, volunteer and coworker relations through professional, compassionate and educational interactions Educate the public on assistance programs Answer the phones in a timely manner. Ensure public spaces are cleaned and stocked appropriately. Receive and store donations appropriately. Balance the cash register each day including necessary reports. Adoptions Promote and perform animal adoptions. Have thorough knowledge of animals available for adoption. Use this knowledge of available animals to match adopters with a pet that fits their lifestyle. Ability to educate the public on the ongoing care requirements of pets, including but not limited to: diet, exercise, grooming, training, and preventative veterinary care. Create animal profiles (including photos and bios) for different media platforms. Miscellaneous Be punctual for scheduled shifts. Maintain a neat, well groomed appearance. Demonstrate initiative, motivation, creativity and enthusiasm for the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to effectively and humanely handle dogs and cats with diverse behavioral needs. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Exposure to disinfectant solutions. Subject to animal bites, scratches, etc. Exposure to animal allergens.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license and transportation Time management skills Proficiency with basic computer skills including Microsoft, Google, and social media platforms. Excellent verbal and writing skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to function in a high stress environment Problem solving skills. Broad knowledge of animal behavior.

$12.00 per hour
