https://tinyurl.com/mrx6dvu5 POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for maintaining a clean environment, and assisting with various animal care tasks, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animal health and behavior and providing enrichment. This role will not have direct reports. This role will report directly to the Pet Resource Center Intake Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
These tasks are illustrative only; to carry out the day-to-day functions of the job, other duties may be performed. Provide proper feeding, watering, and general care to animals according to established protocols. Ensure animals have clean bedding, toys, and enrichment throughout the day. Observe animals for signs of illness or distress and report concerns to the Kennel Lead. Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and common animal areas daily. Follow sanitation protocols strictly to prevent the spread of disease. Dispose of waste and biohazard materials safely and appropriately. Safely handle animals during feeding, cleaning, transport, and medical checkups. Use low-stress handling techniques as trained and directed by the Lead Animal Caretaker or Intake Supervisor. Accurately complete daily logs for feeding, cleaning, and animal observations. Help prepare animals for transport, adoption events, or medical appointments. Maintain cleanliness and organization of kennel supplies and work areas. Assist with shelter laundry, dishes, restocking supplies, and other routine tasks.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, ordering supplies, answering the telephone, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Familiarity of Human Animal Support Services (HASS) values and elements. At least 1 year of previous work in animal welfare/veterinary medicine industry Highly developed emotional intelligence, ethical decision making, and capacity to navigate multiple interests to achieve positive outcomes Excellent written and verbal communication skills with teammates, volunteers and public
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED Must value diversity and contribute to an inclusive work environment. Must have working knowledge of dog and cat handling and behavior, including pets with challenging temperaments and with severe health conditions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical ability to perform tasks such as cleaning, lifting, and walking. Ability to work under stressful conditions. Knowledge of hazardous materials and sanitation standards. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System. Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina.
