Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
Animal Services Specialists help MAC achieve greater lifesaving outcomes by facilitating the intake of animals in need, helping to reunite lost and found pets, and playing a vital role in keeping animals safely out of the shelter and in loving homes whenever possible. Animal Services Specialist also support MAC Dispatchers and our Animal Protection Officers who respond directly to citizen animal complaints and calls for assistance, by answering phone calls from the public, gathering and documenting details essential to support animal control cases, and even at times picking up or returning animals. Successful applicants must have outstanding "people skills," a strong work ethic, the ability to navigate sometimes hectic environment with professionalism, and a drive to serve as many pets and people as possible. Both a love of animals and compassion for humans are essential!
SALARY, SCHEDULE, AND BENEFITS
Rate:
$16.00/hour
Classification:
Hourly, full-time; variable hours including weekends and holidays

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
(includes but are not limited to): Create a welcoming experience for individuals looking to place found or owned animals or otherwise engage with MAC. Actively support pet owners in solving problems leading to relinquishment or in rehoming their own pets. Actively support "finder minders" and facilitate lost pet reunifications. Utilize appointment-based, Managed Intake approaches to assist in scheduling pet intakes. Help to support placement of animals through rescue and transfer partnerships, ensuring compliance with best practices. Support MAC's foster program, helping to ensure the safety and welfare of fostered pets. Ensure stellar customer service at all times when working with clients and stakeholders, both internal and external. Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and protocols. Ensure a safe and sanitary environment for animals and people. Provide daily animal caretaking support as needed. Perform animal intake activities, such as vaccination and deworming. Answer call and gather information to open up animal control cases. Pick up stray animals that have been contained and return animals to the owners. Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to relate and communicate with staff, volunteers and the general public. Ability to exercise good judgment and decision making when dealing with staff and the public. Proven organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail (effective record keeping ability). Strong humane animal handling skills and knowledge of animal behavior a plus. Ability to operate all equipment, tools, technology, vehicles and other materials relevant to job duties. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school diploma is required, Bachelor's Degree preferred. 1 year of experience in animal welfare, customer service or equivalent preferred.
