Job Description

Posting Details Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date. The Workers' Compensation Administration assures the quick and efficient delivery of indemnity and medical benefits to injured workers at a reasonable cost to employers. •Applications submitted without work experience, or a resume will not be considered. Please make sure to attach your transcripts to certify degree (if applicable) that is required. Why does the job exist? The purpose of the Workers' Compensation Administration Ombudsman is to assist workers, employers, insurance carriers, health care providers, and other interested parties in protecting their statutory rights and explaining their responsibilities and obligations under the Workers' Compensation Act and Occupational Disease Disablement Laws. How does it get done? The position is responsible for conducting research and facilitating communication between parties to resolve disputes prior to those disputes being elevated to our court system, while ensuring the compliance with applicable federal and state statutes and agency rules, policies, and procedures. The position is responsible for receiving and responding to inquiries from parties whether in person, via the hotline, email, and/ or other methods of communication. Inform unrepresented parties of their rights and responsibilities under the Workers' Compensation Act and Occupational Disease Disablement Laws, including disseminating information and providing technical assistance. The incumbent shall conduct outreach throughout the assigned region and serve as a resource to interested parties seeking to understand their role in the Workers' Compensation process. The incumbent shall not be an advocate for any person and shall restrict activities to providing information and facilitating communication to expedite the resolution of claims. Injured workers and employers Insurance companies Medical providers Attorneys Internal agency bureaus Ideal Candidate Injured workers and employers Insurance companies Medical providers Attorneys Internal agency bureaus Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or related social science field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification, plus two (2) years of related experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage, some sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and reaching may be required. Ability to complete assignments with a high level of accuracy within strict time constraints. Incumbent will have direct contact with customers to provide assistance. Contacts may be irritated and may also require extensive explanations about their responsibilities and rights under the law. Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs.
