Open Until Filled Job Summary The Deputy Judicial Marshal provides security during courtroom proceedings and ensures the general security and safety of court employees. This position is responsible for directing jury activities and ensures jury security during jury trials. The Deputy Judicial Marshal is supervised by the Trial Court Administrator or his/her designee. The principal duties of this class are performed in both a courtroom and general office environment that may include exposure to potential personal danger.

Key Responsibilities Courtroom/Jury Security:

o Attends court proceedings, deters or controls courtroom disturbances and outbursts, and ensures security and safety of persons in the courtroom o Carries out instructions of the presiding judge during courtroom proceedings o Takes individuals into custody on warrants & as ordered by the presiding judge including but not limited to, arresting & book in process of individuals o Monitors jury activities and performs duties of jury custodian, including jury orientation, arranging accommodations and transportation, escorting jurors to crime scenes, and tracking expenses o Ensures safety and security for problem solving court proceedings, Family Court Service classes, Court Assistance Office and other court, courthouse, building, and related security, as needed o Performs investigations of threats, juror misconduct reports, and related incidents as directed

Other Duties:

o Provides guidance and training to part-time or temporary Deputy Judicial Marshals o Assists the public by providing information and answering inquiries about court schedule, locations, and procedures o Completes reports and other related documents in a timely manner o Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with county and court policies, procedures, and safety practices o Other duties as assigned

Qualifications Skills and Abilities:

Basic law enforcement methods, techniques, equipment, and objectives Court and related legal procedures and processes Standard First Aid administration Security equipment, including firearms, metal detection and screening methods and equipment, and related equipment Customer service methods, techniques, and objectives Cope with stressful situations calmly, fairly, tactfully, and with respect for individual rights Establish and maintain effective relations with persons with varied racial, religious, ethnic or economic backgrounds Operate security and screening equipment Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports Make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established procedures Learn new aspects of public security work Adhere to the Idaho Judicial Branch Code of Conduct for non-judicial employees Special Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age Valid Idaho driver's license POST certification preferred; basic law enforcement training required: Patrol, Corrections, Military Police, etc. Successfully complete a background investigation and have no felony convictions or history of domestic violence Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalency required Considerable years of experience in law enforcement required Equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered Essential Physical Abilities Clear speech with or without an accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information Visual acuity, with or without an accommodation, to read instructions, review and organize documents Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks Ability to lift 25 lbs Disclaimer To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the primary job responsibilities satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
