Job Description

Boulder County Coroner's Office Department is seeking to hire a Coroner Technician - Operations Division . The Coroner Technician is responsible for the day-to-day assistance to the Operations Division. This position performs a variety of complex operational support duties requiring independent judgment of a non-routine, confidential and complex nature in support of the Boulder County Coroner's Office.
Complexity/Responsibility:
Work is characterized by assisting the Operations Division in the Investigations and Pathology Units. This position will perform routine, non-routine, confidential and complex tasks unique to the Coroner's Office. Critical thinking and respectful, professional behavior are required. The Coroner Technician must pay strict attention to detail, be able to multi-task, and take initiative. Work involves a variety of sensitive and highly confidential material. The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated, adaptable, detail oriented, passionate, highly efficient and able to work under heightened emotional situations in challenging environmental conditions while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
Scope of Interpersonal Contacts:
The Coroner Technician is a representative of the Coroner's Office and is involved in a myriad of interpersonal contacts. Such contacts require a high degree of interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, tact, discretion, etiquette, and good judgment. Contacts may include but are not limited to: Boulder County personnel, vendors, law enforcement personnel, mortuary staff, medical staff, laboratory staff, and family and friends of a decedent. This is an hourly, non-benefited position that will work 15 to 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday with possible call out during evenings, weekends, and holidays . This position will work out of 5610 Flatiron Parkway , Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime). Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Assist in administrative and operational support functions for the Investigations, and Pathology Assist the investigations unit with death investigations under the supervision of a medicolegal death investigator Operate a fleet vehicle, while responding to scene locations to recover and prepare decedents for transport to the coroner's office; pick-up and delivery of specimens, and or records from laboratories, hospitals, care centers and physician offices Intake and process decedents into the custody of the coroner's office; collects and preserves physical and medical evidence Collect fingerprints for identification purposes Perform limited scope diagnostic imaging (x-ray) for identification, documentation of trauma, and evidence location and collection Perform limited photography of decedents and death scenes Collect, inventory, document, and protect the integrity of evidence and personal effects via chain of custody Assist in the release of decedents to authorized parties Perform a variety of case related data entry via case management system Participate on an emergency preparedness and mass fatality May be required to be 'on-call' from time to time to help respond to emergencies Perform special projects of complex administrative, technical, or confidential nature such as completing death certificates in the Colorado Electronic Death Registration (EDR) System Maintain, review, and verify routine or specialized reports and records related to death investigations including images Maintain confidentiality of records in accordance with state law, and office policies and procedures Perform related work, as required May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of: A h igh school diploma or equivalent AND 2 ( two) years of medical and/or criminal justice experience Additional related education may count towards required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older Applicants must pass a polygraph examination Applicants must be able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and maintain on-call availability Applicants must have a less than 45-minute commute from your residence to the office, and reliable cell phone coverage from that location Applicants may be required to work special hours on short notice

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual in English and Spanish Experience working with or for a coroner or medical examiner's office, or other related experience such as a mortuary, law enforcement, health care, etc. Experience working with bereaved family members
