Qualifications Education and Experience:
Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school. Substitution of Education for
Experience:
Qualifying experience in clerical and/or customer service work may substitute for the required education to a maximum of four years (e.g., experience equivalent to one year of full-time work in one or a combination of the above listed fields may substitute for one year of the required education).
Necessary Special Qualifications:
Applicants for this class must: Complete a background clearance application which includes releasing all records involving any criminal history; Submit a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI; Agree to a fingerprint-based, name-based criminal history records check; Never have been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity in a civilian or military jurisdiction of any Permanent disqualifying criminal offense listed in section 1572.103(a) of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) - Title 49 (disqualifying offenses); Never have been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity in a civilian or military jurisdiction within the 7 years preceding the date of application of any Interim disqualifying criminal offense listed in section 1572.103(b) of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) -Title 49 (disqualifying offenses); Not have been released from incarceration within the 5 years preceding the date of application for any Interim disqualifying criminal offense listed in section 1572.103(b) of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)-Title 49 (disqualifying offenses); Not be under want or warrant for a felony listed in section 1572.103( a) or section 1572.103(b) of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) -Title 49 (disqualifying offenses). Overview This classification provides customer service and support by interpreting laws and policies, answering inquiries, resolving complaints, and guiding individuals through licensing processes. In addition, this classification reviews, processes, and maintains license and driver records, ensuring accuracy and compliance through data entry, verification, and communication with stakeholders. This classification also performs various administrative tasks including document preparation, mail handling, reporting, and staying up to date on regulations, while seeking supervisory input as needed. This class differs from Safety Examiner Supervisor in that incumbents of the latter supervise incumbents of this class and are responsible for managing all aspects of the licensing and permit process. Responsibilities Provides guidance and support to licensees or other individuals or groups by gathering details from the customer, providing information about products or services, answering inquiries, resolving complaints, and interpreting laws, rules, policies, procedures, and regulations. Processes and evaluates license applications and related documents for accuracy, eligibility, and compliance, approves or denies licenses, communicates with applicants and officials to clarify information, updates records and systems, ensures problem resolution, and compiles data for reporting. Retrieves and updates driver records using multiple databases, creates records for out-of-state and unlicensed drivers, enters timesheet data, and maintains records, reports, or files. Performs data entry and verification, identifies and corrects data errors, compares entries with source documents, and reports technical issues to the help desk. Prepares and sends letters related to accidents, insurance, and licensing, verifies information with crash reports, and responds to inquiries. Stays current on laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, applies updates and training to daily tasks, and revises procedure manuals as needed. Performs administrative tasks such as logging payments, preparing and checking documents, maintaining inventory and activity logs, and handling mail. Receives, sorts, verifies, and processes documents and mail from various sources for accurate data entry and distribution. Seeks supervisor guidance on procedures and interactions with vendors and internal personnel, handles phone calls, directs inquiries, and takes messages. Competencies (KSA's)
