Decisions commit the agency to the extent of legal liabilities for health, safety and welfare of residents, and to, a reasonable extent, for the protection of employees and the public. Normal consequences of error in judgement could include introduction of contraband, escapes, assaults, murder, major disturbances, drug abuse, impaired public relations, and danger to welfare of residents and employees, legal liability and embarrassment to this institution and the State of Kansas. Job Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Plans, organizes and directs the work of subordinate Corrections Officers in the performance of duties to ensure compliance with established operations' procedures. Oversees enforcement of rules and regulations and takes appropriate action to correct noted deficiencies or deviations. Oversees the proper supervision of resident activity areas as necessary during the assigned shift. Works with subordinate staff in the area of resident management and in problem solving in complex situations. Supervises, maintains discipline, and control of residents in their living quarters, at meals, in classrooms, at work sites, activity and program areas, in the hospital, kitchen and bathing areas; while they are segregated for punitive, protective and administrative purposes; while they are on work details (inside and outside). Reviews reports submitted by subordinate officers to ensure their accuracy and completeness; including but not limited to: property inventory, disciplinary reports, incident reports and narratives. Ensures all reports comply with applicable rules, regulations, policies and orders. Searches residents at their work, recreation, in the infirmary, while in food service and in their housing units to prevent the secreting of contraband and fabrication of lethal weapons, by physical patdown in either standing or prone position. Applies mechanical restraints when necessary. Controls items of a security nature such as radios, body alarms, firearms, tools, locks, keys, medical equipment and drugs. Prepares evaluations of subordinate employees as assigned. Counsels those employees and provides documentation to support those evaluations to the shift supervisor. Provides necessary training and guidance to subordinate Corrections Officers. Documents on-the-job training as required by departmental policy. Follows established security procedure in controlling visitors, staff, inmate and vehicular traffic to prevent the admittance or exit of unauthorized persons and the introduction of contraband. This includes searches and patdowns and may include full shakedown of vehicles. Observes resident activity and interactions in the area of responsibility. Enforces policies, rules and regulations. Monitors deviations in resident behavior. Reports incidents or behaviors that deviate from the resident's general profile or that could cause an immediate problem. Qualifications Education :

GED Licensing & Certification :
Have valid driver's license and certification as a Corrections Officer by the Secretary of Corrections.
Minimum Qualifications :
Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for CO I A; be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment; have three years of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders including one year of supervisory experience; and have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP). At the discretion of the agency, college coursework in criminal justice, the behavioral sciences, or the social sciences, or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP and for some or all of the required non-supervisory experience.

Selection Process:
Applicants selected for an interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior-based interview questions. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval. A second interview may be conducted. Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency; and possess a valid Driver's License.
