The Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated Corrections Captain to join our leadership team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and operational integrity of the facility. The ideal candidate is an experienced corrections professional with strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and the ability to guide staff while upholding the mission, values, and standards of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. As a Corrections Captain, you will oversee daily operations, support staff development, ensure policy compliance, and contribute to a secure and orderly environment for both staff and offenders Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR 2. One year of experience in any field; OR 3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer. One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current driver's license. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
Meet with the shift supervisor at the start of each shift to review daily operations, staffing levels, security concerns, and any emerging issues requiring command attention. Ensure the Daily Roll Call Training Topic is prepared, accurate, and effectively communicated during roll call, reinforcing staff readiness and policy compliance. Remain on assigned post until properly relieved, ensuring continuity of command and operational stability. Provide direct supervision and guidance to Lieutenants, ensuring they understand expectations, follow established procedures, and maintain professional standards. Collaborate with the Unit Manager and Colonel to conduct regular staff meetings addressing security operations, problem areas, new directives, policy updates, morale concerns, and other matters affecting facility performance. Promote a positive and professional work environment by supporting staff morale, addressing concerns promptly, and fostering teamwork across all levels of supervision. Conduct routine rounds with shift supervisors to assess security practices, staff performance, offender behavior, and overall operational effectiveness. Periodically meet with the shift Major and Lieutenants to discuss management issues, operational challenges, and strategies for improving safety and efficiency. Identify and address potential security risks, procedural deficiencies, or areas requiring corrective action.

LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES
(Adult DOC) The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted, or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Compensation:
 This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $24.64 per hour. There is 'Premium Pay' for this position: A rate between $1.00 an hour and $2.00 an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
