- Institutions Operations Job Classification Title Correctional Case Manager (S) Position Number 60062276 Grade NC07 About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work This is a REPOST - Previous applicants DO NOT need to reapply in order to be considered! This position is located at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, North Carolina. This is a medium custody male facility. This position will report to the Correctional Program Supervisor. Effective verbal and written communication with staff, inmates, and the general public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Monitor off-site programs, which may require operation of a motor vehicle in a safe and secure manner at any time of day and in any varying weather and road condition. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive. Conduct continuous and audio surveillance of assigned work areas. Accurately operate office machines. Prepare written reports and forms which demonstrate and instruct inmates in the proper safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies. Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation and personal observation. Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. Account for supplies and equipment. Develop, implement, and manage applicable correctional programs. This position will be responsible for some of the following inmate programs: Inmate education, Incentive Wage, Community Volunteer Program, Classifications, Case Management, Transitions, Inmate Service Club, Substance Abuse, Transfers, Inmate Recreation, Father-Read, CBI (Thinking for a Change), and Religious Programs. This position will be required to be a Notary. This position requires working some evening hours, some weekends, and some holidays. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques Documented knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs Minimum Education and Experience Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
