FUNCTION:
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the County jail, giving attention to the safety of employees and inmates as well as the security of inmates. Maintains accurate records of all activities relating to the operation of the jail, coordinates medical services and formulates Jail Policy, analyzes costs and insures jail maintenance. Responsible for jail staff training and performance evaluations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervise all jail personnel and all aspects of jail operations. Develop and maintain staff schedules. Review personnel performance. Discipline staff as necessary, excluding only suspension and terminations. Make further recommendations and report on all disciplinary actions to the Sheriff or his/her designee. 2. Assist in preparation and oversight of the jail budget, with the Chief Deputy. Order and maintain jail supplies and medical supplies as needed for daily operations of the jail. 3. Establish and enforce policy and procedure as mandated by the Department of Corrections and State Statute. Maintain working relationship with Department of Corrections Jail Inspector from the State Office of Detention Facilities. Keep up with the current administrative rulings and state law changes regarding the operations of jails. Oversee and maintain PREA compliance. 4. Command and direct the operations of the facility and staff, including maintaining consistency in the operation of the jail. 5. Present decisions affecting major policy changes in the facility with the approval of the Chief Deputy, and Sheriff and in conjunction with County Corporation Counsel, the Department of Corrections and the State of Wisconsin. Develop goals, standards and objectives for the operation of the jail. 6. Represent the jail and its needs to the Sheriff, the department and other agencies. Act as a liaison officer between the jail and court system. 7. Hold regular jail staff meetings to review the operations of the jail, develop solutions to problems and create new policies to offset the problems that arise in the jail. 8. Hold inmate disciplinary hearings when there is an inmate disciplinary problem, and a hearing is required by jail policy/Department of Corrections standards. Review all reports of jail and inmate activities, problems and other occurrences and take appropriate action. 9. Responsible to see that all jail staff meet all training requirements of the Department of Corrections and of the State Training and Standards Bureau and supervise the development and direction of on-the-job training. 10. Coordinates with the Patrol Lieutenant all inmate and commitment transports.
Pay:
$36.58 - $39.00 per hour
