Job Description

Job Summary Join our dedicated team as a Juvenile Detention Officer, where you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for youth in detention. Your energetic approach and commitment to positive youth development will ensure the well-being of residents while enforcing facility rules and procedures. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young lives through proactive supervision, conflict management, and effective communication. Job Description o Will report to work on time, will be neat in appearance, in a clean, wrinkle free uniform as required. o Monitor and operate telephones, computer systems, and monitors. o Keep timely, accurate comprehensive reports, files, and forms. o Carry out effectively and efficiently, agency policies and procedures and directions from supervisory personnel. o Process intake and release of juveniles. o Assist in maintaining surveillance of corridors, rooms, and adjacent areas, while remaining alert for escape attempts, suicide attempts, and attempts to pass or produce items of contraband. Requirements 1. Has reached his/her eighteenth (18th) birthday. 2. Is able to read and write the English language. 3. Has a valid Iowa Drivers License. 4. Is of good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation which includes a criminal history check and a child abuse registry check of local, state, and national files. 5. Is not by reason of conscience or belief opposed to the use of force, when appropriate or necessary, to fulfill his/her duties. 6. Upon conditional offer of employment, submits to a medical examination and is in good physical condition and free of contagious diseases as certified by a physician. 7. Has a high school diploma or equivalent. 8. Can perform the essential functions of the position. 9. Has ability to write reports.
