Job Description

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for Corrections Officer positions for immediate openings. Correctional Officers are responsible for daily operations of the Sangamon County Jail, including inmate observation, transportation, and custodial care; enforcement of facility rules, along with state and federal laws; restraint of recalcitrant inmates; responding to emergency situations; writing accurate and detailed reports and other documentation. Applicants meeting the requirements will be notified of written and physical agility testing requirements. Sangamon County Corrections Officer Requirements Have acquired a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. No younger than 18 years of age at the time of application and appointment. Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License. Must possess a valid FOID (Firearm Owner's Identification) card. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must pass a written examination as prescribed by the Merit Commission. Must pass a physical standards test. Must pass a thorough background investigation including drug testing. Must reside within Sangamon County within 6 months of employment. Completion of a state mandated 8 week training academy and successfully pass state testing Sangamon County Corrections Officer Pay and Benefit Information Two raises yearly (longevity and contractual) Health/Dental/Vision/Life insurance starting on day 1 of employment Fully paid training
Vacation:
10-25 days annually based on years of service
