Job Description

Manage the operations and services provided by corrections staff for an assigned area of the Justice Center. As an employer, St. Louis County cares about the health and well-being of our employees. For more information regarding this program, please visit Public Service Loan Forgiveness | Federal Student Aid Essential Function Examples Coordinate and direct the daily operatio ns of staff development and support services, special operations and security of corrections staff. Conduct regular facility inspections to ensure compliance with regulations for completeness and adherence to policy. Plan and develop methods to achieve goals and objectives of policies for effective facility management. Marginal Function Examples Perform other duties as required or assigned. Bachelor's degree with five years of related experience and 5 years of managerial experience. Related experience shall consist of work experience in the following areas: criminal justice, corrections, and probation and parole . Experience as a police or security officer is not creditable. A master's degree or higher may substitute for one year of related experience. Candidates with no degree must have at least 10 years of work-related experience, with at least five years in management equivalent to that of Captain or above. Some positions require possession of a valid Driver's License or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Some positions require certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid from the American Red Cross. Some positions require possession of a Type III Alco analyzer and Breathalyzer operator's permit. Some positions require certification as a service user by the Regional Justice Information Service (REJIS). Some positions require qualification with the use of a weapon.
Physical Requirements:
Extensive standing, walking, climbing stairs at least eight times daily per shift, using and lifting emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, AED, pepper spray, Taser etc.), bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, continuously wearing an equipment belt, using a breathing apparatus, listening for possible disturbances, observation of required areas.
SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT
: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
