Base pay with additional earning potential! As in all prison's we are a 24-hour operation with our Correctional Officers working 12.25 hours. Correctional staff generally work 14 days out of a 28-day period and night shift employees earn extra shift premium pay. Base pay is a minimum...you will earn more with shift, weekend premiums and overtime pay! DESCRIPTION OF WORK
: Duties of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following: Touring assigned areas which will require periodically climbing stairs and standing for long periods of time. Observing offenders' activity in person and on closed-circuit monitors. Identifying offenders who have behavioral, medical, or other problems so that appropriate safety and security measures may be taken as needed. Performing general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to offenders, visitors, and staff. Searching offenders, visitors, cells and other areas for weapons and contraband. Monitoring and regulating offenders' and staff movement. Maintaining and recording offender counts, cell assignments, and other pertinent information. Escorting offenders within and outside the institution. Using and maintaining keys, two-way radios and other equipment. Supervising offenders' work details. Performing other special security duties that vary by post assignment.
WORK SCHEDULE
E mployees must be able to work any shift including rotating, fixed shift or split shift. All shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required. This is a permanent full-time position with State Benefits. Note to

Current State Employees:
The salary grade for Correctional Officer I is a NC05, Correctional Officer II is a NC06, and Correctional Officer III is a NC07 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
SALARY INFORMATION
NCDAC has rolled out a new Step Pay Plan for its Correctional Officers that has been approved by the NC Legislature. This pay plan offers competitive starting salaries and guaranteed annual increase based on each year of experience as a NC Correctional Officer. Those with prior NC Correctional Officer experience can return to employment with full credit in the pay plan for each of experience as well. •Please note that if there are no fully qualified candidates for the Correctional Officer II position, management may consider trainee candidates. • Trainees must successfully meet all requirements in order to move up to the fully qualified Correctional Officer II job classification. Trainee salaries will be less than that of those employees who are fully qualified. The pay is adjusted when the employee is fully qualified. High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum Education and Experience for a Trainee Appointment High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be at least 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States. 2. Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Applicants with military experience must submit an unaltered copy of the DD-214, Report of Separation (long form) along with their application. Pass Psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. 6. Pass Physical Examination as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. 7. Pass Drug Screening as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. •Attend and successfully complete (6) weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) at a Regional Training Facility.
