Job Description

Cherry County Justice Center has two openings for Corrections Officers and is seeking professional, motivated, dependable individuals to fill these positions. Individuals qualified for this position must be a U.S. Citizen, have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate, be a minimum 19 years of age. They must successfully complete an oral interview, extensive background and criminal history investigations, drug test, and must be able to complete certification by the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center. Corrections Officers must read, write and speak the English language with higher than average proficiency and possess, or be able to possess, a valid driver's license. Corrections Officers enforce and uphold Rules and Regulations established by State Statute, Nebraska Jail Standards, and the Cherry County Justice Center pertaining to the operation of the County Jail, prevent escapes, maintain order and discipline among inmates, escorts inmates to and from their cells, performs periodic inspections to insure adequacy of custody, housekeeping, sanitation, and related functions, responds to the needs and problems of inmates as they arise, participates in processing newly incarcerated inmates, control and restrain violent inmates, inspects inmates' person and quarters for contraband, prepares and maintains records and reports. Provide constant surveillance of all inner workings of the county jail including inmates and corrections staff. Maintain a plethora of logs, forms, messages, reports and records pertinent to numerous agencies within the city, county and state. Monitor and maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, inmates and the public. They will be required to work various shift hours including nights, holidays and weekends. Starting wage $20.00/hr., negotiable depending on experience/training/certifications, DIFFERENTIAL PAY of $3.50/hour for week night shift - $2.50/hour for weekend day shift - $4.50/hour for weekend night shift ; $3.00/hour call-in pay incentive, full-time employees receive full insurance benefits; paid sick and vacation time, and 401k retirement.
