Captain University of Akron - 4.1 Akron, OH Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Benefits 457(b) Disability insurance Health insurance Dental insurance Parental leave Leadership training provided Vision insurance 403(b) Life insurance Qualifications Computer operation CPR Certification Staff supervision Team supervision Word processing Spreadsheets Databases High school diploma or GED Driver's License First Aid Certification Peace Officer Certification Basic firearms training General management State-specific police officer certification Senior leadership First aid and CPR Full Job Description 35% Direct the patrol, training, and other department supervisors in their daily duties and responsibilities while providing overall direction to various divisions of the department. 20% Perform administrative duties, including supervising facility operations, equipment control, managing personnel, creating and enforcing policies and procedures, and reviewing paperwork. 20% Perform all duties and responsibilities of a sworn University Law Enforcement Officer and direct the operations for special events and dignitary protection details. 15% Act as a liaison between the department and the University community, as well as the government and the surrounding community. 5% Participate in the strategic planning for the departmental in-service, advanced training needs, and University or police department events. 5% Plan and coordinate equipment maintenance as well as departmental vehicle fleet maintenance. Make recommendations for new equipment and new vehicle purchases.

Education:
Requires a High School Diploma. Bachelor's Degree preferred.Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:
Ohio Peace Officers Certificate; Valid Ohio Drivers License; CPR, First Aid and Firearms Certifications.Experience:
Requires a minimum of two years of prior leadership and management experience at the rank of sergeant or similar first line supervisor. Demonstrated ability to lead personnel and manage programs or initiatives required. Significant knowledge of laws and law enforcement techniques and University rules and regulations required. High moral and ethical standards, strong communication, problem solving, decision making and analytical skills required. Requires the ability to maintain departmental and Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Standards. Ability to learn and use First Aid, CPR and firearms required. Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and databases required. Professional leadership training such as PELC, CLEE, or FBINA preferred.Leadership:
Management of the operation of a unit/major function with activities typically coordinated through administrative personnel above the level of first-line supervisors or through persons having mid-to-upper-level management or professional responsibility.Physical Requirements:
Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending and/or stooping. Must be able to pursue, restrain and apprehend individuals who may be uncooperative, resistant or combative, including the ability to run, climb multiple flights of stairs, move objects that may be used to block or barricade a pathway, lift and transport an adult, and quickly move to cover, detect or respond to a threat.Working Conditions:
Routine discomforts from exposure to moderate levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness, noise and air pollution. May involve routine/occasional exposure to light chemical substances or hazards (radiation, chemicals, diseases, heights and moving parts).Application Instructions:
