Job Description:
Correctional Hearings Officer Oregon Board of Parole & Post-Prison Supervision Salem, Oregon (Hybrid) At the Oregon Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision, we partner with the Department of Corrections and local community corrections to support safe communities and reduce the risk of reoffending. Our work—guided by law, victim interests, and evidence-based practices—shapes release decisions and supervision outcomes for individuals in the justice system. What You'll Do As a Morrissey Hearings Officer, you will play a key role in upholding fairness, accountability, and due process. In this position, you will: Ensure due‑process protections and uphold legal requirements under
ORS 144, OAR 255
‑75, and Board policy. Review and assess case information from LEDS, OJIN/eCourt, NCIC, and other verified sources. Guide participants through hearing rights and expectations. Evaluate testimony and evidence and determine whether alleged violations are supported. Apply appropriate sanctions or make recommendations to the Board based on established standards. What We Are Looking For Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience in corrections, probation/parole, law enforcement or legal work; OR Three years conducting case hearings; OR A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral science field; OR Graduation from an accredited law school with a LL.B. or J.D.
Desired Attributes:
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Strong analytical and decision‑making skills with the ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and policies accurately. Proficiency in accessing and analyzing offender data using LEDS, NCIC, eCourt, or equivalent systems. Ability to evaluate complex criminal histories and apply classification criteria or sanction grids appropriately. Experience conducting or supporting due process hearings, such as parole or post-prison violation hearings. Ability to produce clear, concise, and legally sound documentation of findings and decisions. Effective communication skills and the ability to remain calm, clear, and respectful with individuals under stress. Preference may be given to candidates who have a current LEDS certification. Currently, staff report to the Salem office every Tuesday, and this schedule may adjust based on business needs. Additional in-office days may be required for training, meetings, or special projects. Additional Details This recruitment is for permanent, full-time, Correctional Hearings Officer position, and may be used to fill future vacancies. This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute. The Board of Parole & Post-Prison Supervision is responsible for complying with the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA 42 U.S.C. 1997). PREA prohibits the us from hiring, promoting, or contracting with anyone, (that will have direct contact with residents), who has engaged in, been convicted of, or been civilly or administratively adjudicated for engaging in sexual abuse in confinement settings. Learn more about PREA. The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position. However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer. If you have questions about whether or not your criminal record could disqualify for you, please contact the recruiter for more information. The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%. Finalists will be subject to a computerized criminal history check including fingerprints. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification. We do not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, applicants will be required to complete I-9 documentation and confirm authorization to work in the United States.
