The Indiana Department of Correction is hiring Correctional Officers in Pendleton, Indiana at multiple facilities, including: Pendleton Correctional Facility Pendleton Correctional Facility is a maximum‑security facility located in Pendleton, Indiana, housing incarcerated adult males. The facility also operates an adjacent minimum‑security dormitory. While the campus has historic origins, it includes updated housing units and medical areas that support modern correctional operations. Incarcerated individuals can participate in educational programs, GED preparation, and literacy courses. Additional opportunities include substance abuse treatment, parenting courses, and vocational training in auto body repair and printing. Staff emphasize safety, accountability, and skill development. Adult Male population Minimum, Medium, and Maximum Security Correctional Industrial Facility Correctional Industrial Facility is a medium‑security facility in Pendleton, Indiana, housing more than 1,400 incarcerated adult males. The facility offers a wide range of educational, vocational, and job opportunities to support rehabilitation. Incarcerated individuals participate in apprenticeships and assignments such as maintenance, groundskeeping, sanitation, food service, barbering, and manufacturing. CIF also features a brake shop where individuals refurbish brake pads while learning technical skills. Educational opportunities include the ability to earn a GED, helping prepare incarcerated individuals for employment after release. Staff promote an environment of accountability and professional development. Adult Male population Medium and Maximum Security Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility is a maximum‑security facility located in Pendleton, Indiana, with 391 beds for incarcerated juvenile males. The facility includes multiple general population housing complexes, an admission and orientation unit, and a secure housing area. Its campus‑style layout includes medical services, food and laundry operations, indoor recreation areas, a chapel, and Providence Jr./Sr. High School. Outdoor recreation areas include fields, courts, and a running track. The perimeter is monitored 24/7 to ensure safety. Programs focus on treatment, vocational skills, education, and re‑entry preparation. Juvenile Male populationMinimum, Medium, and Maximum Security Role Overview :
As a Correctional Officer, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team at an Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility. During a typical 12 hour shift, you will maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals, while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. During the 2 week pay period, Correctional Officers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend.Salary :
This position starts at a $22/hour base pay, equating to a salary of $1,886.50 biweekly or $49,049 annually. Correctional Officers also earn differential pay of $1/hour at Pendleton Juvenile and Correctional Industrial Facility or $2/hour at Pendleton Correctional Facility. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn. A Day in theLife:
The essential functions of this role are as follows: Monitor assigned areas at various intervals for security of incarcerated individuals, count of incarcerated individuals, and security of buildings and grounds. Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures. Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details including general clean-up of institutional grounds and buildings. Escort incarcerated individuals to and from various locations across the facility for food, medicines, work assignments, and recreation. Keep records and make reports on such matters as incarcerated individuals movements, activities, and rule violations. Search incarcerated individuals housing areas and visitors for possible unauthorized items. You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE). At least eighteen (18) years of age. Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation. Must test negative on all drug screenings. Veteran/law enforcement candidates are encouraged to apply. Ability to work with and around incarcerated individuals per DOC mission statement. Ability to work mandatory/voluntary overtime in any shift; up to 16 consecutive hours per day. Ability to understand and utilize chemical agents properly. Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear directions to incarcerated individuals, completion of incarcerated individual/conduct reports etc. Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to apply as needed.
