Miami Correctional Facility is a level‑four high‑medium‑security facility located in Bunker Hill, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,100 incarcerated adult males. The facility sits on former Grissom Air Force Base property and also includes a level‑one facility with capacity for more than 200 incarcerated adult males. Miami Correctional Facility offers extensive educational and vocational programming, including a Braille translation program and a sewing shop serving community partners. Incarcerated individuals gain hands‑on skills that build employability for re‑entry and the programs help individuals develop strong work habits and meaningful experience. Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees. Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility is a multi‑level security facility located in Logansport, Indiana, housing incarcerated juvenile males ages 12 to 21. The facility was formed through a merger of treatment and intake units and continues to provide both services. It operates across housing, programming, and administrative buildings on the historic Logansport State Hospital grounds. Programs support education, behavior management, and individualized treatment. Staff emphasize accountability, habilitation, and preparation for reintegration. The facility delivers services designed to meet the diverse needs of youth in its care. As a Correctional Officer at the Miami Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a maximum security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical 12 hour shift, you will maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals, while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. During the 2 week pay period, Correctional Officers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend. As a Correctional Officer at the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a multi-level security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for juvenile males. During a typical 12 hour shift, you will maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals, while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. During the 2 week pay period, Correctional Officers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend.Salary:
The salary for this position at Miami Correctional Facility starts at a $22/hour base pay + $2/hour of differential pay, equating to $2,058.00 biweekly or $53,508.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn. Eligible custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $50 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties. The salary for this position at Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility starts at starts at $22/hour base pay, equating to $1,886.50 biweekly or $49,049.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn. A Day in theLife:
The essential functions of this role are as follows: Monitor assigned areas at various intervals for security of incarcerated individuals, count of incarcerated individuals, and security of buildings and grounds. Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures. Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details including general clean-up of institutional grounds and buildings. Escort incarcerated individuals to and from various locations across the facility for food, medicines, work assignments, and recreation. Keep records and make reports on such matters as incarcerated individuals movements, activities, and rule violations. Search incarcerated individuals housing areas and visitors for possible unauthorized items. You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE). At least eighteen (18) years of age. Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation. Must test negative on all drug screenings. Veteran/law enforcement candidates are encouraged to apply. Ability to work with and around incarcerated individuals per DOC mission statement. Ability to work mandatory/voluntary overtime in any shift; up to 16 consecutive hours per day. Ability to understand and utilize chemical agents properly. Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear directions to incarcerated individuals, completion of incarcerated individual/conduct reports etc. Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to apply as needed.
