In partnership with the Florida Department of Corrections, we also provide advocacy services to incarcerated individuals (adults) in accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Position Overview We are seeking dedicated Victim Advocates to provide 24/7 hotline monitoring and in-person response services for incarcerated individuals reporting sexual violence. This position is primarily remote; however, advocates must respond in person to Department of Corrections facilities across 14 counties when activated. These are Department of Corrections facilities housing adult inmates, not juvenile justice facilities. Individuals utilizing the hotline may request an in-person advocate, requiring the on-call advocate to respond directly to the correctional facility to provide advocacy services. This position serves incarcerated adults within Florida Department of Corrections facilities. Advocates regularly communicate with incarcerated survivors of sexual violence and may enter correctional institutions to provide in-person advocacy services. Candidates should be comfortable working within a correctional environment and interacting professionally with incarcerated individuals, correctional staff, and investigators.
Important:
Call volume may fluctuate. During scheduled monitoring shifts, the advocate's primary responsibility is to monitor the hotline and remain available for immediate response. If no calls are received, there may be limited active tasks during that shift. However, uninterrupted availability is required at all times. Residency Requirement Applicants should reside within Judicial Circuit 14, including Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, or Washington County. Residency within the service area is required to ensure timely response to correctional facilities and attendance at required in-person meetings and training. Availability & On-Call Requirements This position requires complete attention and uninterrupted availability during scheduled shifts. During assigned monitoring hours, employees must: Remain fully available to answer hotline calls immediately Be in a location with reliable phone access Be able to travel promptly to assigned correctional facilities if activated Refrain from scheduling appointments, secondary employment, or other commitments that would interfere with uninterrupted coverage Employees must be capable of immediate response during their scheduled shifts. Schedule Structure We are currently recruiting for: Two permanent part-time weekend positions; and One or more per-diem/substitute advocates who will provide coverage when regular full-time or part-time staff are unavailable due to illness, vacation, training, or other scheduling needs. The per-diem/ substitute position will be to cover any shift in which our regular full time and regular part time employees may need coverage for (for example, when they are out sick or using vacation time).
Schedules may include:
Day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts Rotating coverage 8-hour or 12-hour shift structures Part-time and Full-time Advocates will have a regular assigned coverage schedule; however, flexibility is required to ensure 24/7 program coverage. Hours for per-diem positions will vary based on program needs and staff coverage requirements. Orientation & Training Requirements All hired candidates must be available for: New Employee Orientation (one full week, in person) Required initial training, including the 30-hour ACT training within 30 days of hire Ongoing annual continuing education requirements Team meetings and mandatory staff meetings (in person or virtual as scheduled) Additional training as required by the agency or funding sources Although this role operates on a regular monitoring schedule, participation in agency-wide activities and training is mandatory. Essential Duties Monitor and answer 24/7 PREA hotline calls for incarcerated individuals statewide Provide crisis intervention and emotional support Respond in person to correctional facilities when required Provide advocacy throughout criminal and administrative proceedings Document services within required timelines Obtain Release of Information in accordance with DOC and agency policy Collaborate with correctional staff and community partners Maintain accurate and timely records and reports Qualifications High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in human services or related field preferred Experience in advocacy, crisis intervention, or human services preferred Strong independent work skills and ability to work remotely Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in crisis situations Valid Florida driver's license, current automobile insurance, and reliable vehicle required Ability to travel across multiple counties as needed Willingness to complete required PREA and victim advocacy training Must be 21 years of age Must reside within Judicial Circuit 14 (Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, or Washington County). Full-time employees are eligible for agency benefits. Part-time employees do not receive benefits. This position provides an opportunity to work independently while making a direct impact on the safety, support, and recovery of incarcerated survivors of sexual violence throughout Northwest Florida. Department of Corrections Clearance Requirement Employment in this position is contingent upon approval and facility access clearance by the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC). Candidates must be eligible to enter and provide services within correctional facilities. The DOC conducts its own review process, which may include criminal history screening and other security considerations. Failure to obtain or maintain DOC approval will result in disqualification or separation from this position. Additionally, individuals currently listed on any inmate visitation list or approved inmate call list for a jail or prison within the entire State of Florida are not eligible for this position due to facility access restrictions. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain Department of Corrections facility access throughout employment. Additional Conditions of Employment Successful completion of a Level 2 background screening is required. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening is required. We currently have 3 positions available: Part Time Weekend Day Shift (7am-7pm) on Saturdays and Sundays (24 hours per week), Part Time Weekend Night Shift (7pm-7am) on Saturdays and Sundays, ending at 7am Monday morning (24 hours per week). We also have a per diem substitute position available that will fill in as needed for any shift 7 days per week, 24 hours per day (can be anywhere from 0-40 hours per week, based on scheduling needs).
