CIVIL SERVICE POSITION
• Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Detention Officer. A Detention Officer is responsible for, but not limited to, providing custodial care necessary for the security and well being of inmates confined in the Collin County jail. Work is performed under the direction of a Sergeant, Lieutenant or Captain. Primary Functions Prepares inmates for transport to court appearances. Processes new inmates, assisting victims advocates, supervising inmate visitation. Distributes food to inmates. Conducts security checks. Oversees inmate sentence calculation and releases by reviewing court commitments. Handles control room operations, and reviews and verifies inmates trust fund accounts. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Only candidates who are available for shift work, including overnight shifts, are eligible to apply for this position - candidates MUST be available to work any shift. Must have the knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Must have the level of education equivalent to four years of high school or equivalent. Must be able to obtain the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) County Jailer Certification within twelve (12) months after assignment (paid for by Collin County). If assigned to Transfer, must obtain Firearm Certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Operators Drivers License with an acceptable driving record. No previous experience necessary. Copies of the following documents must be submitted when applying for Detention Officer. The Sheriffs Office will notify you of when to present these documents to the background investigators. If you are not able to supply these required documents, you will not be considered for the position. Candidates must be able to pass a post offer, pre-employment physical (POPP), a Functional Physical Capacity Assessment (FPCA), a drug screen, and a background check, when required. Must be able to pass physical fitness test to be eligible for hire. Current, unexpired Texas Driver's License Birth Certificate (original or original copy) High School Diploma, Transcript, or GED (original or original copy) Transcript(s) from all colleges attended (original or original copy) Military-DD214 (if applicable) United States citizenship documents if not born in the United States Tattoos The Collin County Sheriffs Office acknowledges that tattoos vary widely and as such may require individual evaluation. Prohibited tattoos include those considered explicit or inappropriate for the workplace and gang tattoos. In general (as long as they are not considered inappropriate/gang related/explicit) CCSO allows some tattoos to be visible when in uniform, including cosmetic eyeliner tattoos and ring tattoos. Jail personnel are permitted to have tattoos visible on their arms in short-sleeved uniforms. Some minimally visible tattoos on the arms may also be permissible for deputies and management staff. Tattoos on the neck, face and/or hands are subject to evaluation. Testing Requirements Applicantsfor theDetention Officer positionwill proceed through a series of tests based on passing scores and rankings.
