Under the direction of a teacher for the visually impaired, responsible for working with visually impaired students on computer applications, preparing Braille materials on-site, interpreting information and adapting concepts to clarify student understanding, ensuring the safety of students, maintaining inventory and resource files, communicating with agencies servicing visually impaired students, and participating in professional development opportunities. This position generally works in the classroom and moves between assigned schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Produce Braille (Grade II) and textbook formatting by using BrailleTranslation Computer Program, including translating print material to Braille and editing, correcting, and formatting Braille. Create maps and graphics in Braille. Communicate with local, state, and national agencies servicing students with visual impairments in order to keep current with accessing information and materials for the visually impaired. Prepare tactile graphs in Braille. Enlarge materials. Create tactile materials in other mediums. Maintain a resource file for Braille materials. Produce local, state, and national tests in Braille. Participate in professional development programs to advance skills in Braille. Arrange for repair of Braille equipment.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent, plus specialized courses required to complete the Colorado State Braille Competency and/or the Library of Congress Braille certification. One year and up to and including two years of experience with Braille, including the ability to read, understand, and produce Braille manually. This position is 21 hours per week. Work Calendar is 180 days beginning August 11, 2026

Braillist State Competency - Grade 6 $22.98 per hour Braillist National Competency - Grade 7 $24.75 per hour
