Immediately Job Description Position Summary The goal of the High School Mentor is to support young musicians in El Sistema Somerville and serve as postitive role models in and outside of the music classroom. Mentors will assist Teaching Artists in musical instruction while fostering a collabortive environment and helping to build a strong sense of personal artistry and community amongst students. Essential Functions & Responsibilities The responsibilities listed below reflect the primary duties of the position; the omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the role. Additional responsibilities that are similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position may be assigned as needed to meet program, legal, or operational needs. Assisting Teaching Artists with during sectionals, rehearsals, and lessons by providing peer support to younger students with instrument practice and musicianship Modeling and reinforcing positive behavior and teamwork Helping with classroom and stage setup Assisting in monitoring downtime and transitions Maintaining adequate knowledge of technique, fundamentals, and musicianship skills Qualifications & Requirements Current SPS High School student with 4+ years of instrument experience Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills El Sistema Somerville graduates preferred Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred Reporting Relationships Director of El Sistema Terms of Employment
