Under general supervision performs specialized instructional work in English composition Work of the class involves assisting teachers of language arts by reading and correcting student compositions The work is performed under continuing teacher direction but latitude is allowed for procedural independence

None Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of composition, English grammar, usage, mechanics, and rhetoric. Knowledge of desktop computers and software used in wordprocessing, grammar checking and composition. Ability to communicate principles of English composition effectively. Ability to read and evaluate student compositions quickly and effectively and to convey results quickly to students. Skill in working directly with students in the process of in-class writing, reacting to their writing, and suggesting ways of improving it. Skill in motivating students of varying abilities. Skill in using wordprocessing and other computer software. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Education Training Experience:

Bachelors degree required. College major in English or equivalent training and experience in the principles and techniques of English composition and in the communication of this knowledge to students. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
