The Prince George's County Council is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Stenographer, (Administrative Aide 2G) grade G15 position, in the Zoning Hearing Examiner's Office. About the Position Provides accurate and timely transcription of spoken words using shorthand, stenotype machines, or voice-writing technology to support the Office in assisting the Zoning Hearing Examiner. This role helps the County Council fulfill its rezoning responsibilities by creating clear, complete, and well-organized written records of zoning hearings, meetings, interviews, and related proceedings. About the Agency All legislative powers of the County are vested in the County Council. In addition, the County Council sits as the District Council on zoning and land use matters, and as the Board of Health-on-health policy matters. Captures and transcribes spoken dialogue during meetings, statements, and deliberations during public hearings and other proceedings conducted under the authority of the Chief Zoning Hearing Examiner. Coordinates with Chief Zoning Hearing Examiner, Council Members, attorneys, or staff to clarify terminology, verify statements, or resolve discrepancies. Uses shorthand, stenotype equipment, or digital stenography tools to produce accurate, real-time or near-real-time transcripts. Prepares official documents, summaries, and reports based on recorded proceedings. Ensures the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism in all documents. Prepares, reviews, and edits transcripts for clarity and completeness. Maintains organized records in accordance with established policies and legal requirements. Willingly and cooperatively performs duties and tasks which may not be within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work. High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices or other related clerical subjects. Successful Completion of probationary period of nine (9) months at the Administrative Aide I level. OR One (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least one (1) year . One (1) year of secretarial training above the high school level. An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Upon selection, the candidate must (where applicable): Pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken and passed the exam on or after 8/1/2024 will not be required to re-test. Previous passing test scores will be applied. Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
