Job Specific Information :
We are seeking a skilled Braillist to produce high-quality instructional materials and tactile aids for visually impaired students. In this role, you will independently transcribe a wide range of academic content—from elementary texts to advanced, specialized subject matter—under tight deadlines. Content complexity varies significantly, ranging from elementary texts to advanced, highly specialized subject matter. Certification as a braille transcriber by the Library of Congress is required. Thorough knowledge of English Literacy, Braille Code, and Nemeth Code. A The wage range for this position is a salary between $29.10 p/h and $41.87 p/h based position responsibilities. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION
Under direction, performs braillist work in producing instructional materials for visually impaired students. Work of the class involves transcribing instructional materials into braille formats and codes for visually impaired students. Materials range from elementary texts to advanced material containing complicated subject matter.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
(Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work nights, weekends and unusual hours as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of English Literacy Braille Code, uncontracted and contracted, and Nemeth code. Ability to perform duties without technical supervision. Ability to prepare a variety of instructional materials for visually impaired students. Skill in the transcription of braille format and codes. Good communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Associates degree required. Bachelors degree preferred. Training in the transcription of braille formats and codes required. Two plus years recent brailling experience required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Bachelor's degree desirable.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Certification as braille transcriber by the Library of Congress required.
